WHAT IS DENTAL BONDING?

Everyone would like to have a perfect smile, but sometimes, discolored or damaged teeth might take the shine out of our smile. A good solution to this is dental bonding.

Dental bonding is a procedure that involves attaching a plastic resin to a damaged, decayed or discolored tooth. Bonding can also be done for cosmetic reasons to make teeth look even and white or to make teeth look longer.

If you would like to get dental bonding done, contact our staff at Smooth Dental to discuss the best procedure for you. At Smooth Dental Group, Dr. Elizabeth Tran will first give you an oral examination and then explain to you your options and the procedure.

THE DENTAL BONDING PROCEDURE

The procedure includes:

  • Finding the right shade: Dr. Tran will first use a shade chart to get a resin color that matches the color of your teeth.
  • Preparing the tooth or teeth: The tooth or teeth being treated then have to be roughened. This allows the solution to stick properly to the teeth.
  • Applying conditioning liquid: A conditioning liquid is applied to the roughened tooth to help the resin to adhere properly.
  • Attaching the resin: The resin, which at this point is still soft and moldable, is attached to the tooth and formed into the right shape.
  • Hardening: Next the resin is hardened using ultraviolet light or a laser.

HOW LONG DOES TREATMENT LAST?

Depending on how many teeth require bonding, you might need to schedule a few more visits to the dentist. Dr. Tran will give you a full set of instructions to be followed after the dental bonding is complete.

It takes a skilled hand to mold and shape the tooth properly, and Dr. Tran has extensive experience and success in the procedure. In her capable hands, the bonded resin would look exactly like a natural tooth and no one will be able to tell the difference.
